This F/V is designed for salmon drift gillnetting in the Prince William Sound area and/
or operating out of Cordova to fish the Copper River flats. When designing the vessel,
special emphasis was given to operating efficiency, sea keeping ability, fish hold
capacity, fishing efficiency, excellent visibility from the helm, and operator comfort.
The hull was designed for maximum operating efficiency at light load (weight when
you leave the harbor to fish) based on analysis of bottom loading calculations. The
hull features higher deadrise (44 degrees) at the cutwater for improved rough water
handling. The deadrise at the transom is 12.5 degrees for efficient jet operation and
enhanced directional stability. The six fish holds are generously sized with 7,200 lb.
capacity. The foredeck is carefully laid out with a reel offset to starboard and a
forward control station to port. The foredeck features adequate slope so fish will
easily slide into the flush fish holds.
Forward sloping windshields with additional windows in the cabin entry door recess
promote excellent forward visibility. Diamond Sea Glaze sliding windows to port and
starboard provide superior side visibility and ventilation. A large rear window
centered on the aft bulkhead provides good visibility aft. The head compartment is
located behind the helm station to minimize obstruction to aft quarter visibility.
The cabin interior includes the helm station, enclosed head compartment, two bunks,
a large galley, a forward facing dinette, and room for installation of a diesel heater.
This vessel features robust construction with an “aircraft style” box framing system
under the foredeck, a watertight crash bulkhead forward and two additional
watertight bulkheads forward and aft of the fish holds, and heavy duty aluminum bar
stock engine mounts. Under the foredeck, there are two full height girders under the
foredeck, full height transverse frames spaced 28.5”, and fourteen longitudinal
stringers spaced 6” apart. Fishhold frames are spaced 34 3/16’ apart with full height
longitudinal girders fore and aft to compartmentalize the fish holds. The engine room
has longitudinals space 6”, transverse frames spaced at 34”, and heavy duty bar stock
engine mounts. The hull sides and transom are supported with four longitudinal
Operator comfort is ensured with an insulated 10 ½’ long by 9’ wide cabin complete
with a Bentley Mariner suspension helm seat with ballistic nylon upholstery, a 27”
wide by 45” long enclosed head with a toilet and marine sanitation system, two 33”
wide by 78” long bunks with dual density foam cushions, a 50 ½” long galley with
under counter shelving, and a forward facing dinette with a 21” deep by 34” wide
table complete with fiddles, cup holders, dual density seat cushion, and 12 V outlets
for a computer.
The windshield and cabin are heated with a Heatercraft HEA 301-H-B heater. Space is
provided aft of the helm seat for future installation of diesel cabin heat.
