VESSEL DESCRIPTION:
The F/V is a modern purse seine vessel found in Alaska with house forward and wheelhouse on top, work deck aft, and two fish holds under work deck. The vessel is a displacement monohull with raked bow, full keel, and square stern with screw tunnel. Hull, cabin, wheel house and decks are constructed of molded fiberglass over foam core. Forward on bow is anchor and anchor windlass. The hull sides and bulwarks are protected by three hard plastic rub rails that extend longitudinally. The bulwarks average 16” – 30” high with scuppers cut into bulwark for deck drainage. The work deck is of a typical Prince William Sound seiner configuration with deck capstan, main mast, main boom, two picking booms, power block and hydraulic winches to orchestrate the operations of seine fishing. All ship’s hydraulics are run off two PTOs systems with hydraulic pumps directly driven off main engine and transmission.
The vessel is supported and divided by four bulkheads into five below deck compartments: fo’c’sle, engine room, forward fish hold, aft fish hold, and lazarette. The fo’c’sle is accessed through cabin and has bunked V-berths that sleep four and two enclosed staterooms that sleep three. The engine room is accessed through cabin sole and houses the main engine, auxiliary generator, RSW system, battery banks, and hydraulics. The forward fish hold is accessed from three fiberglass hatches on work deck. The engine room / shaft alley can be accessed through rectangular watertight hatch in second bulkhead. The aft fish hold can be accessed from forward fish hold by two oval Freeman hatches in third bulkhead; as well as an aluminum Freeman hatch on work deck. Both fish holds are insulated and cooled by a 22-ton RSW system. The lazarette is accessed by the Freeman hatch on aft work deck and houses the fuel tanks, water tank, and rudder post.
INTERIOR DESCRIPTION:
The house is forward the work deck and accessed through companionway in aft, starboard cabin. Forward cabin starts just aft of the fo’c’sle with an 8-person settee to port, then galley with refrigerator, four burner-stove with oven, lower cabinetry with double basin sink and countertop, and cabinetry overhead. To starboard, forward to aft, starts stairway with access to wheelhouse, large day bunk with storage underneath. Aft is enclosed head with teak vanity, shower stall and marine macerator toilet. The interior is finished with vinyl, oak paneling and trim on walls and overhead, Formica countertops, and vinyl sole. The wheelhouse is positioned on top and forward of cabin and accessed through forward cabin interior stairway and through aluminum door at centerline on deck of cabin lid. Wheel house has navigation counter with controls both port and starboard, electronics, electrical panels, autopilot, bucket seats, and safety gear. A day bunk is set aft wheelhouse.
