GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The fishing vessel is of a bowpicker configuration and is used primarily for salmon drift gillnetting. The hull, decks, bulkheads and cabin are constructed of marine-grade aluminum plate (5086 H116 for hull bottom, sides and transom, 5052 for cabin, bulkheads and decks; and 6061 for structural beams, frames and longitudinals). The hull is a planing design with a curved stem, hard chine, semi-V bottom, square transom, cabin aft and flush decks forward of the cabin with three fish holds amidships.
The cabin is accessed through a watertight hinged aluminum door centered on the forward cabin bulkhead. The cabin layout from forward to aft is as follows: To port forward is the dinette table with facing bench seats, then an enclosed head with marine toilet. To starboard forward is a helmsman station with electronic array with Red Dot cabin heater and two pull drawers found under the helmsman seat; then the galley sink with refrigerator under; then Dickenson Pacific oil range, then L-shaped counter space. Two berths are stacked athwartships at aft end of the cabin.
Access into the engine room is by raising one of three hatches inset into the cabin sole. The cabin sole is insulated with a 1” sound deadening material in the engine room overhead. By removing the aft two hatches under the lower berth there is 7 feet of head room behind the berth provided by the 3 foot hull and “trunk” cabin extension. The engine room contains the propulsion engines, vessel batteries, fuel tank, engine room bilge pump, hydraulic pumps, hot water heater, sea water strainers, through hulls with ball valves for toilet & raw sea water strainers, and hydraulic tank; all is secured and well arranged. Watertight hatches are found in the cabin overhead and in the aft “trunk” cabin to facilitate the removal of the propulsion engines, if needed. Also, found atop of the cabin is an aluminum arch stand for the spotlight, radar dome, GPS, radio antennas, and two deck lights.
Forward of the cabin is the fish hold area divided into three compartments by two longitudinal bulkheads and covered by three watertight aluminum hatch covers fitted to raised combings. A 17” round Freeman hatch is fitted into each hatch cover, as well as a Baywood 8.5” X 19” oval hatch centered behind the center fish hold hatch. The fish holds are set up to carry a total of 12 brailer bags, but currently is set up with 4 “slush” bags. All three fish holds have a common sump for discharging water at the back of the center hold. The combined total fish hold capacity is approximately 12,000 lbs. of salmon.
Forward of the fish holds is a flush deck containing the gillnet reel on centerline fitted to a track for sliding. A helmsman station to starboard forward of gillnet reel (containing a Horizon depth sounder repeater, RPM gauges for each propulsion engine, and watertight circuit breaker panel), an aluminum anchor box is found to port of gillnet reel, and an aluminum 20” circular Freeman deck hatch is forward of the gillnet reel for access below. Found below deck are a plastic fresh water tank, Pacer 2” pump with plastic housing, through hull with ball valve for Pacer pump, and plumbing for fish hold circulation.
The bow is fitted with a hydraulic bow roller and secured to the outboard side on the transom are an aluminum swim step, outdrive units, and trim plates with plastic hydraulic rams.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
In 2011, approximately $100,000 (one hundred thousand dollars) was spent on captioned vessel that included: lengthening the vessel 3 feet, new reduction gears, and new outdrive units. The propulsion engines were also rebuilt at that time and had to be moved forward to install the transmissions. Also, the wet exhaust systems and Racor fuel filters were replaced. The vessel appears to be both sound and watertight in its hull, decks and cabin; it appears suited for its intended service. Pride of ownership is apparent.
