Fisholds: Packs 5,000 lbs. Salmon in Insulated Fisholds
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The fishing vessel is of a bowpicker configuration and is used primarily for salmon drift gillnetting. The hull, decks, bulkheads and cabin are constructed of marine grade aluminum plate. The hull is a planing design with a curved stem, hard chine with 10” X 16’ aluminum extentions for added lift, semi-V bottom and slightly curved transom.
The cabin is located aft and has access through a watertight hinged aluminum door centered on the forward cabin bulkhead. To starboard is a helmsman’s station with electronic array forward with Espar heater, refrigerator, and two batteries under, then the dinette with facing bench seats. To port is an L-shaped galley with counter top and single stainless steel sink with pull drawers under, then a propane two burner stove with oven, then a propane cabin heater. A large single berth is located athwartships at the back of the cabin over the engine compartment. A marine toilet with manual hand pump is located to port aft and can be enclosed by use of a hanging bed sheet. A watertight aluminum hatch is fitted to a raised combing in the cabin overhead for the removal of the propulsion engines if needed. Also, found atop of the cabin is an aluminum arch antenna stand and 5-gallon aluminum propane tank.
The engine compartment is located beneath the berth with access through a hatch in the cabin sole or by raising the berth. The engine room contains two Cummins diesel engines coupled to Kodiak model 403 (12”) water jets, two 8D batteries, two 130-gallon welded aluminum fuel tanks to port and starboard, hydraulic pump, and a 15-gallon welded aluminum hydraulic tank.
Forward of the cabin is a large fish hold covered with by three aluminum hatches fitted to a raised combing. The fish hold is insulated with urethane foam and sealed, and can be set up to carry four brailer bags; approximate carrying capacity 4,500 lbs. of salmon.
Forward of the fish hold is a self-bailing recessed deck containing the gillnet reel with manual levelwind. The deck is raised approximately 8” forward of the gillnet reel and has the second helmsman station to starboard and an oval Freeman hatch in the deck for access to the spare anchor rode, Pacer 2” hydraulic-driven pump for net washing, and fresh water tank.
The bow is fitted with a Maritime Fabrication hydraulic bow roller and transom is fitted with an aluminum 2” pipe guard and trim plates with dual plastic hydraulic rams.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
According to the vessel history from the previous survey in 2008 the starboard propulsion engine was replaced with new and in 2009 the port propulsion engine was replaced with a rebuild with approximately 600 hours already on it. Also, in 2009 the bow roller was rebuilt, the Bennett electric/ hydraulic trim tab system installed, and a new refrigerator/ freezer was installed.
The vessel appears to be both sound and watertight in its hull, decks, and cabin; and will be suited for its intended service once
