VESSEL DESCRIPTION:
The F/V is a shallow draft purse seine vessel with house and flybridge forward with wrap-around decks, work deck aft, and fish hold under the work deck. The vessel is a displacement monohull with a raked bow, rounded chine with rolling chocks, and square transom.
Forward on bow is anchor and anchor windlass. The hull sides and bulwarks are protected by hard plastic rub rails with bulwarks that average 6” high midship forward and 13” midship aft. Scuppers are cut into bulwarks for deck drainage. The work deck is of a typical Prince William Sound seiner configuration with deck capstan, main mast, main boom, two picking booms, power block and hydraulic winches to orchestrate the operations of seine fishing. All deck hydraulics are powered by a Vickers 35/25 pump, driven off the main engine’s PTO. The RSW components are powered by a 30 GPM hydraulic pump, driven off the main engine’s transmission.
Under deck, the vessel is supported and divided by three bulkheads. Most forward is forepeak with filter storage and water heater, accessed from cabin sole. Next aft is engine room which is accessed through cabin sole and houses the main engine, two hydraulic pumps and tanks, seacocks, start and house batteries, battery charger, fuel manifold and Racor, and condenser pump. Next aft is one insulated fiberglass fish hold; estimated capacity of 30,000 lbs., plumbed for RSW, and drained by Tyee #2 hydraulic pump. Final aft is the lazarette: accessed by a round Baier aluminum hatch on aft work deck and houses the fuel tanks and rudder post. It is monitored by a high-water alarm and drains to engine room.
INTERIOR DESCRIPTION:
The cabin is accessed through a wood companionway slightly to starboard in aft cabin, down three stairs upon entry, and laid out with galley to port, aft corner. The galley has a like-new Dickinson cabin heater with cook top and oven, countertop with recessed sink, and drawers and cabinets below. Forward the galley is the settee with a fixed formica-lined wood table and two facing wood bench seats that seat four. Forward that accesses the fo’c’sle with four v-berths. To starboard is the cabin helms station with a single wood bench seat, electronics, controls and alarms. Next aft is built-in cabinetry with storage and refrigerator. Next aft is the enclosed head. The cabin is finished with wood veneer paneling on walls and cabinetry, vinyl overhead, teak trim, Formica countertops, and carpet on sole.
COMMENTS:
The F/V is overall in good condition. Much of the vessel appears to be original install (mast and boom, cabin interior, engine, etc.) that shows signs of its age, yet has been maintained well over the years. Upgrades since 2011 include new RSW system, new hydraulic valves and hoses, new hydraulic pumps, fiberglass work including bulkhead repair / replacement, new aluminum transom cap, new aluminum picking booms, new anchor winch, new crow’s nest controls, new autopilot, and new electronics. The hull, deck, and cabin were visually inspected, where accessible, and deemed sound and watertight. Overall, the vessel was clean and well maintained. No equipment was operated but found clean without noted deficiencies.
The vessel has not been used in the commercial fishery for the last two years, therefore current CFEC registration was not up-to-date. Vessel was winterized during survey therefore not all safety equipment was found onboard.
Non-standard observations include a partial broken handle on the gate valve inline for Wagner rudder steering ram, loose hose clamp on the main engine’s exhaust wrap, and a kink was forming in the intake hose for toilet water supply.
