GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The fishing vessel is of a purse seiner configuration of a displacement design with a raked stem, rounded chine with rolling chocks, full keel, elliptical stern, flush deck aft of cabin to transom (except for raised fish hold hatch combing) and forward of cabin the deck is stepped up to allow for more engine room and fo’c’sle headroom, two fish holds are aft of the cabin near amidships, and cabin with wheelhouse atop is forward of amidships. The hull, decks, fuel tanks in lazarette, and cabin with wheelhouse atop are constructed of molded fiberglass.
The vessel layout from bow to stern is as follows: the forward most space under deck in the forepeak is stowage area, and secured forward of the cabin on deck on center is an anchor winch with anchor rode for the anchor on the bow. Aft of the stowage area below deck is the fo’c’sle with two stacked berths to port and two stacked berths to starboard. The fresh water tank is found under the fo’c’sle sole and is integral to the hull, which can serve as a crash bulkhead. Aft of the fo’c’sle and up to two steps is the main cabin. To port is the dinette with double facing bench seats with stowage under, then refrigerator/freezer, then enclosed stateroom with two stacked berths. To starboard aft of the fo’c’sle is the galley (located under the galley sink is the hot water heater and electric heater), then enclosed head with vanity and shower. Located on centerline incorporated into the cabin sole are two inset floor hatches for access into the engine room.
The engine room contains the following: propulsion engine on centerline, AUXILIARY ENGINE NO. 1 to port aft, lube oil tank forward, hydraulic tank forward, steering fluid tank to starboard, hydraulic pumps off PTO, vessel batteries for propulsion engine starting & house to starboard, vessel battery for AUXILIARY ENGINE NO. 1 to port, battery chargers to port and starboard, refrigeration system to starboard aft, fuel filters near engines, fuel manifold system near aft end, holding tank for toilet to starboard aft, deck hose pump (which can serve as an emergency bilge pump) just port of propulsion engine, capped sonar tube forward of propulsion engine, and engine room bilge pumps on automatic float switches; all appear well arranged.
At aft end of cabin to starboard of centerline and up a step is a hinged aluminum door for entry/ exit to and from the main cabin. The wheelhouse can be reached by an aluminum rung ladder located to port and aft of the main cabin; next to the ladder is a deck pump secured to the main work deck. Entry into the wheel house is through a hinged aluminum door. The wheelhouse contains the helmsman station with electronic array and emergency battery forward (serves as backup for navigational electronics & steering pump), electric heater to port, and berth with pull drawers under aft.
Aft of the wheelhouse on centerline is the mast, and affixed to it is the main boom equipped with purse seine block on slider to telescopic hydraulic ram, along with two picking booms with winches, topping winch for main boom, and ladder to gain access’s to crow’s nest secured atop (crow’s nest contains additional helmsman station).
Aft of the mast on centerline is the deck winch with two davits (one to port and one to starboard) secured to inboard side of raised bulwarks and deck. Aft of the deck winch is the main fish hold, then aft “Sunday” fish hold; the combined total capacity of salmon in refrigerated sea water is approximately 60,000 lbs. of salmon. The main fish hold is plumbed for refrigerated seawater and is secured by an aluminum hatch fitted to raised fiberglass combings; whereas the aft fish hold can be accessed through a hinged aluminum door incorporated into the transverse bulkhead partitioning the main and aft fish holds.
Located on centerline near stern end of vessel is an oval aluminum deck hatch for access into the lazarette. Within the lazarette two fiberglass fuel tanks (one to port and one to starboard), propulsion engine steering gear, and bilge pump on automatic float switch are found; all appears well arranged.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The vessel underwent a loss in Summer of 2019 by a previous owner; the current owner purchased the vessel in Fall 2021 and had the vessel gone through and replaced or repaired items and systems as needed. Reported by the managing agent the following work was done on the vessel:
- Managing agent and vessel crew stripped the cabin interior and remodeled with new (except for enclosed head, and various existing teak doors in main cabin were refurbished); estimated cost $50,000.00 (fifty thousand dollars).
- M&M Mobil Glass replaced and installed various new windows; estimated cost $3,000.00 (three thousand dollars).
- Managing agent installed new electronics; estimated cost $20,000 (twenty thousand dollars).
- Alpine Diesel installed a refurbished running takeout marine/ reduction gear on the propulsion engine; estimated cost $7,000.00 (seven thousand dollars).
- Custom Hose & Tube rebuilt the hydraulic winches, installed a new steering pump, installed new hydraulic pumps, and replaced hydraulic lines with new as needed (managing agent estimated approximately 40% of all the hydraulic lines were replaced with new); estimated cost $40,000.00 (forty thousand dollars).
- Saddle Point Machine modified the power block by installing a gripper wheel; estimated cost $8,000.00 (eight thousand dollars).
- Dutch Marine Industries did fiberglass and paint work as needed. Work consisted of repair on exhaust cabinet, repair on aft wheelhouse weather deck, hull repair on sonar tube, reinforced & refurbished wheelhouse, various fish hold work on bulkheads, re-painted engine room, and refurbished crow’s nest with fiberglass and paint atop of mast; estimated cost $20,000.00 (twenty thousand dollars).
- Peterson’s Welding & Machine installed a new steering tank, as well as engineered and installed a complete new exhaust system and exhaust fiddly; estimated cost $40,000.00 (forty thousand dollars).
- Cordova Outboard, Inc. installed a new propulsion engine and new auxiliary engine; estimated cost $115,000.00 (one hundred fifteen thousand dollars).
- C&C Electrical and Glacier Custom Works completely rewired the vessel’s electrical system; estimated cost $70,000.00 (seventy thousand dollars).
- Additional work done to the vessel with the help of managing agent, vessel crew, and vendors included: servicing fuel tanks by having them opened, cleaned, then resealed; repair of various steering lines, stripped / repainted rigging with Rustoleum paint; added new rigging cables, serviced rigging blocks, added new winch lines, added new picking boom spreader lines & blocks, added new fresh water system, added an Espar D2 Airitronic cabin heater (one duct in main cabin & one in wheelhouse), added King Electric heaters (one in main cabin & one in wheelhouse), and replaced bunk & seat cushions with new (reported by managing agent the bunk and seat cushions were still in process of being completed, not on board at time of initial or follow-up vessel inspection).
The vessel appears to have been thoroughly gone through and restored to nearly like-new condition. The vessel appears to be both sound and watertight in its hull, decks, and cabin; it appears suited for its intended service.
