HULL & DECKS: Hull material: Solid Fiberglass (FOP), white gelcoat with green trim Cabin Material: Fiberglass The cabin arrangement of the John Boy is of the typical SE Alaska stern picker. The cabin is located centerline just forward of midship. Aft of the cabin is the work deck arrangement. Either the cabin is a 1 to 4 foot step down or a walk- in off deck with the cabin sole floor on the work deck level. The former arrangement allows for more engine room space. This is the arrangement of a Daniels. Entering the cabin is a step off the deck and over the cabin door deck break . To port is the head and to starboard is a very small salon space. Forward of the salon/head is the galley with Washington stove to port and settee across the centerline to starboard of the stove. Next forward is the navigation binnacle, and helm station. All is well laid out decently and in order. 3 V berths in the focsle convertible V-Berth/Dinette with removable center cushion. The Daniels sole is a single step down cabin and the engine room is below and accessible underneath the cabin sole. The original drawings called for a bit different arrangement. AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT AND DECK MACHINERY: ENGINE SPACE VENTILATION: Natural air flow ventilation was provided by the hull side vents. SEACOCKS/SEA-VALVES: Raw water seacocks were bronze alloy ball valve t ype. Lubricate, exercise and monitor frequently. Recommend performing maintenance on all seacocks & sea-strainers annually (disassemble, inspect, clean and lubricate). It is also recommended that all below the waterline and near the waterline thru -hulls have a proper sized wooden plug attached to function as an emergency plugging device. SEACOCKS WERE FOUND TO OPERATE FREELY AS INTENDED HOSES: Appeared serviceable, where sighted. Monitor frequently for dry cracking, degradation, damage or chafing . HOSE CLAMPS: Always recommend installing corrosion resistant marine grade stainless steel T-bolt type hose clamps and/or solid banded (non-open slotted) hose clamps where appropriate.
