VESSEL DESCRIPTION:
HULL:
This vessel is a 1979 Mel Martin Bristol Bay gillnetter. It is a diesel driven single screw hard-chined fiberglass hull manufactured in Bellingham, Washington. Originally, the vessel was 32 feet in length at the waterline and the bow extended a several inches beyond this length. However, the State of Alaska required Bristol Bay boats to be limited to 32 feet in overall length, so the hull’s bow was subsequently shortened to comply with regulations. It is, relatively speaking, a deep drafted vessel compared to more modern Bristol bay boats, and has a rounded tunnel to accommodate the propeller. For its age the hull is in good condition with no signs of impact damage or any blistering or delaminating on hull. A daylight trunk cabin/ house is located forward and the cabin is topped by a fly bridge and pipe mast with antennae mounts.
HOLDS & WORK DECK
Aft of the cabin to the stern is a standard cockpit type work deck, with six ( 6) compartmented fishholds and a step down to the picking deck aft. The fishhold bulkheads are solid and show no signs of delamination or water intrusion. Hydraulically operated deck equipment includes gillnet roller aft, gillnet reel midships, anchor winch forward. The fish holds all drain into the center shaft alley where either a Rule bilge pump or a jabsco pedestal pump can be used to dewater the holds. The gillnet reel can be manually articulated to change positions from forward to aft. Engine controls and a helm station are located rear port side alongside hydraulic valves to operate the deck equipment.
CABIN/FOCSLE
A cabin is entered from the work deck on the port side of the exhaust shroud, which is centered on the aft cabin bulkhead. The trunk cabin style utilizes a raised wheelhouse, immediately upon entry, and three steps down from the wheelhouse is the main living quarters for the crew. The helm station is on the port side of the wheelhouse. A dinette (which can be converted to a bunk) is on the port side of the main cabin area with the galley area on the starboard. A Dickensen diesel stove, ss sink & countertop and cabinetry are found in the galley. A 3- person V-bunk focsle is entered from the fore cabin bulkhead. A head is located aft of the galley on the starboard side. Cabinets are teak Formica laminate and flat surfaces are formica. Walls are carpeted & floor·is linoleum. Cabin and focsle were clean and well kept.
ENGINE ROOM
The main engine room is entered from a floor hatch in the wheel house. The front of the engine can also be accessed from a hatch under the main cabin stairway, and the back of the engine and transmission can be accessed through a hatch in the forward midships fishhold. The engine room access is good, well lit and clean. Batteries are well mounted & secure on the port side of the engine room. The engine room is vented through the aft cabin wall and exhaust shroud.
